Robust and actionable Climate Transition Plans (CTPs) are key to the long-term survival and competitiveness of businesses. They’re not just a compliance exercise: they let you anticipate and mitigate climate-related financial risks, effectively adapt your business strategies, and avoid unexpected costs.
CTPs, a key element of European regulations such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), are currently under discussion. The proposed amendment to the European sustainability directives, contained in the so-called “Omnibus package” and currently under discussion in the European Parliament, suggests removing the obligation for companies to implement CTPs, weakening a fundamental lever for accompanying the European productive fabric towards climate neutrality.
To protect this measure, based on the requests and contributions of companies in the Advocacy & Stewardship working group participating in the 2025 program of CO2alition, initiated by NATIVA and the Fondazione per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile, a letter has been co-authored and will be presented to European legislators ahead of the parliamentary debate. The objective is clear: to maintain CTPs as central tools in the industrial and climate strategies of European companies, protecting competitiveness and resilience, and to simplify their adoption for small and medium-sized enterprises, making the climate transition an accessible and concrete process.
Why sign?
The letter is open to all European companies, regardless of whether they are members of CO2alizione. Signing is a sign of concrete commitment to the dissemination of credible and implementable CTPs. We ask you to:
- Maintain the mandatory nature of CTPs (as provided for in the CSRD and CSDDD texts)
- Define clear and pragmatic guidelines for companies of all sizes
- Provide tools and training for an effective transition
